Police in Kharkiv investigates attack on journalist

The incident occurred, as the TV crew was filming the story and tried to enter the enterprise, as Newsroom reported with reference to the press service of the main directorate of the police in the Kharkiv region.

The police were alerted about the incident in Akhsarova Street on January 6 at about 12:00. Arriving at the scene, the police officers found out that the incident occurred between journalists of the news agency "Actualna Pravda" and employees of the Road Service of Kharkiv region. According to police, a road service employee did not let TV crew to get in the enterprise and prevented video recording.

On the same day, the journalist from a news agency filed a complaint with the Kharkiv District Police Department №3. A representative of the road workers filed a counter-complaint to law enforcement agencies. He noted that journalists tried to enter the territory of the enterprise and almost broke the turnstile. For their part, the journalists said that a man at the checkpoint hit a cameraman, trying to break the camera.

Investigators opened a criminal case under Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Obstruction of the professional activity of journalists") and 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Hooliganism"). The sanctions of the articles provide for up to five years in prison
