Police closed the case on assault against journalist from Rivne as they did not recognize it as "legally defined crime"

Zarichenske branch of Varaskyi department of police in Rivnenska oblast closed the criminal proceding that was opened before based on fact of attack against the correspondent of the TV channel “Inter” in Rivne, Inna Biletska. IMI representative in Rivnenska oblast was informed about this in the communications department of the National Police in Rivnenska oblast. As the local police communication department explained, the investigators did not find it was a legally defined crime. Inna Biletska told the local IMI representative that she was summoned for testimony. After that, the proceeding was closed, and she is indignant about this. This is already the fourth criminal proceeding related to violation of Inna Biletska's rights as a journalist closed by the police. In the last several years, no proceeding that was opened in Rivne region in relation to obstruction to the activities of journalists, made it to the court. As IMI reported before, on June 17, a man near the village of Solomyr, Rivnenska oblast, one of amber miners was obstructing the work of the journalist of “Inter” TV channel Inna Biletska. The man tried to take her equipment and to hit the phone in the journalist's hands.
