The level of Ukrainian online media's adherence to standards has risen by at least 25% since 2017, and the IMI's List of Transparent and Responsible Media Outlets (known as the White List) has played a role in this. The current average level of adherence to journalism standards by the media outlets included in the White List exceeds 96%, said Oksana Romaniuk, the director of the Institute of Mass Information, at the International Conference on Media Literacy and Media Self-Regulation in Kyiv on April 26.

"As for the White List, five years ago, when we started doing all this (you can check it on the website, in our monitorings), the level, the highest bar with regards to the standards of balance and credibility in the best media outlets was 80–85% of all the content containing no violations. Now it is 96% with no violations. Those media outlets who have 96% of content without violations of objectivity, credibility, distinguishing facts from value judgements are included in the White List," said Oksana Romaniuk.

On April 26, the IMI released the latest List of Transparent and Responsible Media, also known as the White List of Ukraine's best online media, with three media outlets removed: Ukrinform, NV, and Liga.

"We release this monitoring once every six months. I hope that in half a year we will happily welcome these media outlets, which will be on the White List again, having improved their practices," Oksana Romaniuk added.

Earlier, Olena Holub, an analyst at the Institute of Mass Information, remarked that removing an outlet from the IMI's White List or the Recommended Media Map (joint project with "Detector Media") was not punishment, but a request to address issues.

The Institute of Mass Information (IMI) is a Ukrainian public media organization that has been operating since 1996. The IMI defends the rights of journalists, analyzes the media field and covers media-related events, fights propaganda and disinformation and has been providing media outlets with safety gear for trips to the combat zone since the start of the Russo–Ukrainian war in 2014.

The IMI carries out Ukraine's only freedom of speech monitoring and keeps a list of high quality and sustainable online media outlets, documents Russia's crimes against the media committed in the course of the war on Ukraine. The IMI has representatives in 20 oblasts of Ukraine and a network of "Mediabaza" hubs to provide journalists with continuous support. The IMI's partners include Reporters Without Borders and Freedom House; the organization is a member of the International Organization for the Protection of Freedom of Expression (IFEX).
