No journalists' rights violations recorded in Chernivtsi oblast this year
No violations of journalists' rights have been recorded in Chernivtsi oblast since the beginning of this year, reported the Chernivtsi Oblast Office of the National Police in response to an information request by the regional IMI representative.
"No criminal proceedings on violations of the rights of journalists have been recorded by the investigation units and inquiry units of the Chernivtsi Oblast Office of the National Police. Furthermore, throughout 2024, investigators and inquirers have not entered any information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Articles 171, 345-1, 347-1, 348-1, 349-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, therefore no procedural decisions have been made," the police noted.
In her request, the regional IMI representative asked how many criminal proceedings on violations of journalists' rights had been opened as of July 2024, as well as how many of those have been opened this year and how many were carried over from previous years. The request also asked about the number of criminal proceedings that the police have submitted to court since the beginning of 2024.
In May 2023, Chernivtsi investigators closed the criminal case on death threats and violent threats received by journalist, head of the BukInfo portal, Serhiy Zaraisky. An unknown person threatened to murder him and destroy his home.
