New Vinnytsia attorney discusses cooperation with journalists

Vinnytsia Oblast Attorney, Oleksiy Khymchenko, met with regional media representatives, stressing that he was open to communication and ready to make regular media updates about his work.

The meeting took place on November 23, according to the website of the Vinnytsia Oblast Attorney's Office.

"Our transparency and openness should guarantee a rise in the trust in state institutions in general and in attorneys in particular," the Attorney said.

He thanked the journalists for their proactive and critical response to rights violations and contribution to the restoration of justice, at the same time calling on them to adhere to professional standards in their reporting.

"I ask media representatives to adhere to professional ethics. First of all in terms of keeping the secrecy of investigations and carefully handling information about the affected persons. After all, we are working towards a shared goal, that the perpetrators should be brought to justice," Oleksiy Khymchenko stressed.

Khymchenko assured the journalists that investigations into crimes against media workers will be under his personal supervision. His office had previously created a "joint interdepartmental task force for analysing the status of pre-trial investigations, procedural management and judicial hearing of criminal proceedings on offenses committed against journalists."

The attorney answered journalists' questions and promised to hold meetings with media representatives every now and then.

Oleksiy Khimchenko was appointed Vinnytsia Oblast Attorney on October 30, 2023.
