Nature photographer Denys Kryvyi was killed in action near Bakhmut while trying to save his wounded comrades. This was reported by the May 1 issue of GardCity, which printed Denys's works.

As the GardCity journalist Volodymyr Haluzinskyi told IMI, Denys served in the Special Operations Forces; he had expressed a wish to serve in the army in the spring of 2022 and enlisted as a volunteer.

Kryvyi's photos were published by National Geographic, he had a blue FIAP ribbon. Denys Kryvyi's specialization was landscape and reportage photography; he had mastered animal and aerial photography as well. His works are featured in the travel guides of the National Nature Park "Buzkyi Gard".

"He won the international award FIAP – the most prestigious European competition for photo artists. He and I went to university together since the freshman year, I literally watched him grow to be a photographer and a landscapist. His photos have been published by National Geographic. Many of his works have been published here, in the Mykolaiv media: in guidebooks, tourist guides for "Buzkyi Gard". He worked closely with the National Park 'Buzkyi Gard', this is a separate stage of his life," Volodymyr Haluzinskyi told IMI.

His wife Halyna Volhina also reported Denys's death: "Today (May 15. – Ed.) I learned that I have lost the best and most important person for me. My husband. My friend. My sun. The best father of two little girls. Denya is gone. He died in Bakhmut. Trying to save his wounded comrades. Hero and protector. He always did everything and more, and still thought it was not enough. He chose his path voluntarily and walked it with honor. Let us remember him!"

The national nature park "Buzkyi Gard" reported on their website that Denys had been a photographed for many years and was a laureate of many international photo awards, actively working with National Geographic Ukraine.

He participated in photo exhibitions in Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Pervomaysk, Kosovo. Some of his works are in private collections in Europe, North America and Asia.

"Young, energetic, talented, the author of the photo exhibition 'The Beauty of Buzkyi Gard', which was repeatedly shown in museums across our country. Denys Kryvyi's photos are displayed in the booklets by the National Nature Park 'Buzkyi Gard', on the park's website, the stands, the guidebooks, the postcards and other publications. We will never forget Denys' bright deeds and talent!" the post says.

According to IMI, Denys Kryvyi is the 58th media worker who died as a result of Russia's aggression.
