Mayor of Mykolaiv says that mass media have restricted access to sessions of city council "due to lack of oxygen"

25.12.2015, 12:45

City mayor Oleksander Senkevych called "lack of oxygen in the room" as one of the reasons of limitation of the number of journalists that can be present at the sessions of city council. He said this during the online broadcast of program "Dobryi Vechir" on local Channel 35, Novyny N report.

IMI lawyers remind again that according the legislation of Ukraine in effect, local self-government bodies do not have a right to restrict presence of journalists at sessions, and accreditation was designed as a mechanism for simplification of journalists' work, not a restriction mechanism it often becomes in current practice of self-government bodies.
