Luhansk journalist was forced to leave his home city and moved to Lutsk

17.06.2014, 20:50

At the end of May, the editor of Luhansk online media outlet «СityNews» Danylo Aheyev had to move to Lutsk because of the tense events in Luhansk. After several Luhansk journalists, like Volodymyr Startsev, Viacheslav Bondarenko, and Maksym Osovsky, were taken to the basement of the Luhansk building of the Security Service of Ukraine and tortured, for local journalists, who try to present an unbiased picture, it became rather dangerous to work. As Aheyev explained, it was impossible to keep silent about what was going in in Luhansk, but to tell the truth was dangerous.

So, when the tension in the society and pressure on independent mass media started to grow, Aheyev’s staff stopped going to events, and got their information from what they heard from friends and relatives.

Aheyev fled to Lutsk to save the lives of his family.
