Kurchenko sues 1+1 for quoting Poroshenko's words

The owner of “Ukrainian media holding” Serhiy Kurchenko who fled from Ukraine, filed claim against the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the TV channel "1+1" to Pecherskyi district court of Kyiv on protection of his honor, dignity, and business reputation. This was reported by Korespondent with reference to Kurchenko's press service. the claim is related to the statement made by Poroshenko during his visit to Odesa on October 7, 2016, when he said “mister Kurchenko is a criminal”. The statement was broadcasted by TSN news program at “1+1” channel in the 19:30 issue, the press service specified. Kurchenko himself, when commenting his claim, said that the word “criminal” is not used for anyone in particular unless the court judged that person commited a crime. Kurchenko's press service added that if he fails to defend his honor and dignity in Ukraine, he will file the case to the European Court of Human Rights. The General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine is currently investigating criminal case where Kurchenko is suspected in committing grave crimes, including embezzlement, tax evasion, money laundering, creating dummy companies to cover illegal activities, and organized crime Since February of 2014, Kurchenko stays outside Ukraine, he is on the wanted list.
