Kazakh journalist lost trial to migration service which denied her status of political refugee

10.04.2018, 15:46
In the District administrative court of Kyiv city, Kazakh journalist Zhanara Akhmet lost her case against the State Migration Service in Kyivska oblast, which denied her the status of a political refugee. The journalist will file an appeal against this court resolution. Akhmet reported this to “Detector media”. The journalist was in lawsuit with the Migration Service since January of 2018. According to her, in her claim she demanded to cancel an unlawful (to her opinion) resolution of the Migration Service on denial of refugee status or status of a person who demands an additional protection, and to bind the Migration Service to re-consider the her application. “We provided to the court more than enough evidence of my political persecution in the country of origin. The court session lasted over two hours, 10 minutes in the deliberations room, and – denial... In the court resolution, there was not a single reference to evidence, only a statement that the reason why I left Kazakhstan was not political, and I am under no threat”, the journalist commented.
