In Mykolaivska oblast, election committee expelled journalist for "taking footage of wrong things"

12.10.2015, 22:09

On October 8, Novobuzka town election committee (Mykolaivska oblast) voted for expelling from its session the journalist of the information agency «Tut.info», Yuriy  Cheremis. This information was reported by IMI regional expert.

The election committee did this on the proposal of the representative of «Oleh Liashko’s Radical Party», who first said the journalist was «recording the wrong things», and made a motion to expel the journalist. The head of the committee started the voting, and the majority of the committee members approved this. Before this, committee members told the journalist that he had no accreditation and that he was not invited. This information was confirmed by the police where the journalist filed a complaint after he left the session.

As a reminder, according to clause 6, part 9, article 29 of the Law of Ukraine «On Local Elections», journalists have a right to attend sessions of election committees, not more than two journalists from each media outlet.
