In Kyiv, Russian journalist Arkadiy Babchenko was shot dead (UPDATED: this information turned out to be false)

In Kyiv, a well-known Russian journalist Arkadiy Bavchenko, who emigrated to Ukraine, was shot dead. This was reported to Hromadske Radio by member of colleagium under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and member of Parliament, Anton Herashchenko. Later, the information that  a man was murdered in Kyiv was reported in Facebook by National Police Kyiv speaker, Oksana Blyshchyk. She did not name the person who was killed, but she said he was Russian Federation citizen, born in 1977, and worked as a TV anchor. There were multiple other messages from Babchenko's friends and from police officials. According to the reports, Babchenko was ambushed when he was leaving his apartment and shot in the back three times. As Radio Liberty informed, Babchenko left Russia in February of 2017. He said he did this because Russian authorities could start a criminal case against him at any time. Lately, the journalist worked as an anchor at Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR in Kyiv. UPDATED: Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Ukrainian intelligence and counter-intelligence agency, Vasyl Hrytsak, said at his briefing that Mr. Babchenko is alive, and that the reports of his death were a part of SBU operation to prevent his murder that was prepared by Russian special services. According to Hrytsak, the agent who organized the assassination attempt is detained by SBU.
