In Kyiv region, journalist from Kazakhstan was detained. She is now in detention facility in Vyshhorod

Journalist and blogger from Kazakhstan Zhanara Akhmet was detained in Kyiv region on October 21 due to being on the Interpol wanted list, and now stays in the detention facility in the city of Vyshhorod, Kyivska oblast. This was reported to Radio Liberty by one of her attorneys, Vladyslav Hrishchenko. According to the attorney, on October 23 in Kyyevo Sviatoshynkyi court of Kyiv oblast, the issue of "temporary arrest for extradition procedure" will be considered. The woman also has a minor son who is now under guardianship of her acquaintances, as the journalist does not have any relatives in Ukraine. The fact of detention was confirmed by the speaker of the National Police in Kyivska oblast, Mykola Zhukovych. Zhanara Akhmet wrote in her facebook entry that she will be waiting for the court session on October 23 and hopes for support of the public. Zhanara was writing for opposition newspaper of Kazakhstan "Tribuna", and also covered the struggle of opposition in Kazakhstan with the abuse of power by the authorities.
