In Khersonska oblast, newspaper "Ridna Prystan" closed down instead of getting reformed

01.06.2016, 22:08

The collegium of the State Committee for TV and Radio Broadcasting is concerned by closing down of the communal newspaper “Ridna Prystan” (Hola Prystan town, Khersonska oblast), which was supposed to be a part of the reformation program of state owned printed mass media. The collegium expressed this at their meeting on May 31, as their website reports.

The collegium members were concerned by the fact that the editorial office of the newspaper, founded by the city council, will not participate in the process of the reform as it will be terminated on January 2018.

The city mayor of Hola Prystan Oleksander Babych, though, in his comment for Most, said that he does not know anything about the plans to close down the newspaper.

The newspaper's office was robbed last weekend, and office equipment was stolen from it, yet the newspaper continues to function, as the newspaper's editor Natalya Yarova confirmed. The editor also does not know why the State Committee reported about the plans to close down the newspaper, as she does not know anything about it.
