In Crimea, correspondent stations of Ukrainian TV channels cease their operation

23.06.2014, 21:55

In Crimea, the correspondent stations of Channel 5, Channel 24, and «Novy Kanal» ceased their operation.  Journalists of the channels «1+1», STB, ICTV, Inter and the First National Channel keep working, but cannot tell for how long.

Most Ukrainian journalists complain that their working conditions in Crimea have significantly deteriorated. They are not allowed to attend sessions of local authorities; officials refuse to give comments to Ukrainian media outlets. They are practically unable to collect information.

Physical danger to independent journalists is another crucial issue.

Channel 5 has removed all its equipment from Crimea last week and currently has no employees there.

Novy Kanal closed down its correspondent station  in Crimea about a month and a half: their journalist Oleh Kruchkov, who has been working for the channel for 10 years, decided he wanted to work for the Russian channel NTV as he did not want to call Russian soldiers occupants.
