In Belarus, journalist Aleksandrov charged with high treason

He faces from 7 to 15 years of imprisonment. Earlier, Alexandrov was accused of organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them. The maximum period of detention under this article is six months, which ends on July 12.

Andrei Aleksandrov and his girlfriend Irina Zlobina were detained in Minsk on January 12, 2021. After that, the BelaPAN office was searched. Part of the equipment and media were seised. The search warrant also included Art. 293 of the Criminal Code (mass riots). The Ukrainian NGOs, as well as the US Embassy in Belarus and the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) made statements about Aleksandrov's detention and crackdown on independent media.
