The name of Hennadiy Afanasiev, photographer and lawyer from Simferopol, became widely known after he got involved in the "Crimean terrorists" case. In 2014, he spoke out against the Russian annexation of Crimea; after that, he FSB detained him in Simferopol and charged him with organizing terrorist attacks. Sever other persons involved in this case were detained along with him. International human rights organizations called this case a political one, and the detainees political prisoners.
