Hackers affiliated with GRU attacked Center for Information on Human Rights - Pechonchyk

08.02.2018, 17:48
Head of the board of NGO “Center of Information on Human Rights”, Tetiana  Pechonchyk received the information that the organization was one of the targets for the hacker group APT28/FancyBear, which is a group of cyber-spies purported to be affiliated with GRU. She reported this on her Facebook page. She reported phishing letters, attacks against gmail accounts, infected letters, etc. Yet the organization took security measures, including training of staff and introducing collective security measures. In her comment to Krym.Realii, Pechonchyk mentioned that such attacks can be related to the work of the advocates in Crimea. “This is done to obtain internal data of the organization. For example, our organization since the start of occupation of Crimea works there, so any disclosure of information about our activists is very dangerous. This can be used to receive information on specifics of the organization's work in conflict zones, and any data of the organization can be published in the Internet with the goal of discreditation”, head of the board of the Center said. The organization conducts regular human rights status monitorings in Crimea since the Russian occupation of the peninsula in 2014.
