EU plans to sanction Putin's propagandists
The tenth package of EU sanctions will target not only Russian politicians and the military, but also the propagandists who are brainwashing people domestically and abroad.
This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at a joint press conference with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Head of the European Council, Charles Michel, on February 9, Ukrinform reports.
"Russia must pay for the destruction caused and the blood shed. In the coming days, we will put forward the tenth package of sanctions. First, we will impose sanctions on a number of military and political leaders. But we will also target Putin's propagandists, because their lies are poisoning people in Russia and abroad... We are going after them," said von der Leyen.
She noted that the leadership of European structures has heard the message very well during their recent visit to Kyiv, when President Zelensky insisted on such a step.
The package will also include an additional ban on exports exceeding EUR 10 billion. "This will further deplete the Russian war machine and continue to destabilize its economy," she said.
We remind you that the tenth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation may be adopted before the anniversary of the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
On January 19, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in support of the action to create an international tribunal to bring to justice all those guilty of the crime of aggression against Ukraine, which was committed under the political and military leadership of the Russian Federation and its allies.
