Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR is accused of extremism
The Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR is accused of extremism. The TV channel’s management received a letter stating this accusation from the Center for Combating Extremism. This was reported by the Center of Journalist Investigations with reference to the Facebook post of the TV channel’s news editor Shevket Namatullayev.
The letter read that the department of Roskomnadzor (Federal Service For Supervision Of Communications, Information Technology, And Mass Media) in Crimea and Sevastopol informed the Ministry of Internal Affairs that ATR, quote, “insistently promotes the idea about possible repressions based on ethnicity and religion, facilitates formation of the anti-Russian public attitude, intentionally instigates among Crimean Tatars distrust towards the authorities and their actions, which indirectly carries a threat of extremist activities.
Based on this statement, the letter demanded that ATR submitted all documents of entitlement and the list of its entire staff.
