After the change in Crimea’s status, snitching began to spread in the local journalist community. The "snitches" receive from the Russian Federal Security Service money rewards. A Crimean-based blogger Nastia Drozd shared this in her blog on the website "Krym.Realii".
According to her, the Russian Federal Security Service does not need to threaten or intimidate as many local journalists, especially those working for official Crimean or Russian media outlets, have low salaries, around $300 a month, and are happy to supplement their monthly income by a $40 reward per report. So, the Federal Security Service has already formed a local network of snitches.
