Court of appeal judged the arrest of Zhanara Akhmet illegal, the attorney reports

On November 8, the Court of Appeal of Kyiv Oblast judged the resolution of Kyevo-Sviatoshynskyi district court of Kyivska oblast on temporary arrest of journalist Zhanara Akhmet from Kazakhstan illegal. The attorney added the next step will be consideration of the appeal complaint about the extradition arrest of the journalist. As IMI reported before, on October 21, journalist and blogger from Kazakhstan Zhanara Akhmet was detained in Kyiv oblast due to being on Interpol red list. Zhanara Akhmet was forced to escape to Ukraine from Kazakhstan in March of 2017. In her native country, she is accused of fraud, but the journalist claims that the real reason of the prosecution is political. Akhmet and her 9-year-old son seek political asylum in Ukraine.
