Court binds ІА "Poltava" to refute information about prosecutor
On May 3, Kyivskyi district court of Poltava partly satisfied the demands of the prosecutor of the prosecutor's office department in Poltavska oblast Mykola Verbliud, who was suing the information agency “Poltava” and its part-time journalist Hennadiy Fetisov and demanded 90 thousand hryvnias for moral damages. Fetisov reported this to IMI representative in Poltavska oblast.
The court judged the information published in the article "Killed a man - get promoted!" that was published on the media outlet’s website on October 17, 2016. The specific information that was judged as such was the following: “it was his fault that the person died”, and “again caused a traffic accident”. The court judged to remove phrases mentioned above from the article within 10 days, and to publish refutation of this information. The court, however, did not satisfy other demands of the claimant.
Based on the judgement, IA “Poltava” and the journalist also have to compensate to the prosecutor for his court expenses –110 hryvnias 24 kopeks each.
In his comment for IMI representative Hennadiy Fetisov said that he is preparing to file an appeal against this judgement to the court of appeals, and that the editorial office already filed one.
