City council in Khmelnytska oblast evicts privatized newspaper "Kray Kamyanetskyi"

The newspaper "Kray Kamyanetskyi" (Private enterprise "Kray Kamyanetskyi"), the editorial office of which is located in the building of the communal enterprise "Kamyanets-Podilska printing house", will have to vacate the office on January 31. These are the demands of the city council, which the landlord of the editorial office. This was reported to “Detector media” by editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Nadiya Yermenchuk.
According to her, the office lease agreement lapsed in summer of 2017. The city council refused to prolong the contract, as the newspaper went private. On February 1, the power supply of the office will be turned off.
The newspaper was being defended by the Ukrainian Association of media business. The association pointed out that the newspaper complied with all requirements of the Law “On reformation of state and communal printed mass media”, and now is completely independent private media outlet, so according to the law the editorial office has a right for priority lease of their old office, with benefits.
The Association also pointed out that any actions that are intended to obstruct the editorial office, must be qualified based on Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In the office of the city mayor, Mykhailo Sumashkevych, the answer to the question why the lease agreement was not prolonged for the newspaper, they answered that "the newspaper is private now", and advised to file an official information request.
