Border guards detained Channel 24 journalists as they tried to film story about contraband

21.06.2016, 18:17

On June 17, Ukrainian border guards illegally detained the Channel 24 filming crew as the crew was trying to film a news story about contraband on the border of Ukraine and Hungary, at the checkpoint “Luzhanka”, and produced an official protocol on illegal stay near the state border, Channel 24 reports.

At about 10.30 p.m., the border guards detained the journalist of the Channel 24 investigation project Yelizaveta Chyp and cameraman Yuriy Herasimov. As the journalist said, they were investigating illegal private use of the land near the border.

According to Chyp, the journalists discovered breaks in the fence marking the border, and a private wagon full of unknown people, to whom border guards had no questions whatsoever.  Yet, after this, the border guards detained journalists as potential offenders, and held them for about 6 hours as they were producing the administrative protocol.
