Prosecutor General: Russian propaganda is trying to divert attention away from Russia's war crimes

03.05.2024, 16:23

The Prosecutor General's Office says it is recording a significant uptick in Russian psychological and informational oprations aimed at smearing Ukraine internationally. This is reported on the GPU Office website.

The purpose of these operations was to limit the international aid to Ukraine and to divert global attention away from the premeditated war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine daily and on a large scale.

As an example of Russian disinformation, the PGU Office mentioned an attempt to shift the blame for the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack (Moscow) to Ukraine.

As another example, the Prosecutor's Office cited the sham investigations about the head of Ukraine's Security Service, Vasyl Maliuk, and representatives of other institutions and units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

"The enemy hopes that their lies will make the world forget about over 127,000 documented war crimes committed by the aggressor in Ukraine. However, the world sees everything. Russia's war crimes, in particular the systematic torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians, have been recorded by UN institutions," the PGU Office notes, recalling the Human Rights Watch report which showed that at least 15 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the past five months while attempting to surrender to Russia.

The Prosecutor General's Office added that over 20 countries around the globe are carrying out their own investigations or gathering evidence of war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine, and the International Criminal Court has already issued four arrest warrants for the Russian military and political leadership.

"And we continue to work closely with our international partners to ensure that the real war criminals, that is, Putin and his subordinates, are brought to justice," the post reads.

In April, the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that in the near future the occupiers would carry out information attacks aimed at disrupting the mobilization effort and smear Ukraine's military and political leadership.
