IMI created council of experts to protect freedom of speech

NGO “Institute of Mass Information” informs about creation of Council of Experts under IMI, which will have a consulting and advisory functions. The council of experts will provide evaluation to the most complicated cases that will be considered in the process of research and monitoring activities of IMI, in particular, in the sphere of freedom of speech. The council of experts is created to improve protection of freedom of speech, and to resolve the issues related to accuracy, fact-checking, and manipulations in the media sphere. “Unfortunately, even now it becomes obvious that with the elections getting closer, the stream of manipulations in the media sphere will be growing. One more challenge is the issue of self-identification of journalists, adherence to professional and ethical standards. We are thankful to the colleagues who supported our initiative”, said IMI executive director, Oksana Romaniuk. The members of the Council of experts will participate as volunteers. The Council now includes: Svitlana Ostapa, vice editor-in-chief of portal “Detector media”; Olena Shkarpova, editor of fact check project VoxCheck; Olha Padiriakova, editor-in-chief of website “Center for information on human rights”; Natalia Vyhovska, media expert (Zaporizhzhia); Andriy Lokhmatov, journalist (Mykolaiv); Taras Borosovskyi, journalist (Zhytomyr); Stas Kozliuk, journalist of “Ukrainskyi Tyzhden”; Dmytro Tuzov, journalist of Hromadske Radio; Ihor Rozkladai, media lawyer of Center for Democracy and Supremacy of Law; Angelina Kariakina, chief editor of news at Hromadske; Petro Shuklinov, journalist of LIGABusinessInform; Fedir Sydorchuk, journalist investigations expert; Serhiy Karaziy, journalist of Kyiv office of information agency Reuters; Tetiana Danylenko, journalist and anchor of TV channel ZIK;  Kateryna Kobernyk, vice-director of the News Department «1+1 media»; Iryna Chulivska, executive director of NGO “Digital Security Laboratory”.
