A TV tower in central Chernihiv was damaged in a Russian strike on 29 October, the Chernihiv City Council press office reported in a Facebook post.

The press office added that works to stabilise the structure would begin shortly.

“We ask the people of Chernihiv not to come close to the television tower and only stay without a 200 meter radius from it. Following these recommendations is the key to your safety,” the message reads.

Earlier, Andriy Kanashevych, chair of the Kupyansk District Military Administration, reported that the Russian forces had destroyed the television tower in Velykyi Burluk (Kharkiv oblast) by targeting it with a Shahed drone on 7 September 7.

Russia’s strikes at TV towers

The IMI recorded cases of Russian troops targeting TV towers back at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022. Back then, 16 cases of the Russians shelling TV towers (which are civilian objects) were recorded.

The Russians resumed the shelling of Ukrainian TV and radio infrastructure in 2024. In March 2024, the Russian troops targeted the TV infrastructure in Kharkiv oblast with drones, resulting in Suspilne becoming temporarily unavailable in the region.
