“Rivne Vechirne” website has sustained 249 cyber attacks between February 24 and April 12. Most of the attacks came from Chinese and russian territory.

“Rivne Vechirne” chief editor Bohdan Slonets reported this to IMI.

According to him, 95% of the attacks were repelled, but the perpetrators managed to make the website unavailable for a short while due to DOS and DDoS attacks. The website was down for 24 minutes total. The attacks mostly created issues in uploading content.

“89 attacks were the ‘scan’ kind, the ones that scan your website to find code vulnerabilities and a way to upload shell and viruses. 158 were DDoS attacks, mostly coming from China – 37%, russia – 34%, TOR network – 16%, Ukraine – 6%, Germany – 4%, and less than 3% from other countries,” Bohdan Slonets said.

The website also sustained two direct mass attacks on the VDS (virtual dedicated server) where the website is hosted.

According to the website’s editor, the attacks happen when the media reports on the threat of invasion from belarus that borders Rivne region.

According to “Similarweb” platform, in March the website’s attendance has grown significantly and now constitutes 2 million visitors.

We remind that the most popular media outlet in Rivne region, “Radio Track,” also undergoes constant attacks.
