Russian hackers targeted the website of Freedom TV (part of the state-owned company Multimedia Platform for International Broadcasting) in a prolonged combined DDoS attack on 17 September 2026, the TV channel reported.
The website received multiple waves of malicious requests throughout the day, which significantly slowed down its operation and affected the timeliness of news feed updates and other posts. The website was completely inaccessible to users worldwide for 10 minutes.
According to the outlet, the attack targeted the Freedom website specifically. The malicious requests came from IP addresses technically identified as originating in the US. The attack also affected the speed of the content management system, which slowed down the release of news and other content.
Technicians with the company quickly restored the website’s operation. Ukraine’s other international resources, such as the Dim TV website, the digital portal The Gaze, and the web versions of the FREEДОМ and UATV mobile apps, remained operational throughout the attack.
On 24 April, Russian hackers attacked the Freedom TV internal communication system, briefly accessing the channel’s corporate chat.
