Well known journalist beaten in Odesa

26.06.2017, 16:05

On June 24, in downtown Odesa, in the middle of the day, two unidentified men attacked local journalist, blogger of “Dumskaya”, green activist Svitlana Pidpala. This was reported by “Dumska”, referring to the journalist's Facebook page as a source.

“About half an hour ago, I was attacked near my home at Tyraspilska street. I held an inflatable children's ball and my cell phone, with a backpack on my shoulder. Nothing was taken. They used tear gas spray, then punched me in the face. I understand that it was a warning, in spite of the fact that I am so shocked in the last weeks due to what is happening at the seaside that I do not even write anything - too disgusted”, Pidpala wrote.

The journalist says the attack was caused by her professional activities, as the criminals did not take anything, neither they tried to, and they were prepared to ambush her and run away. In the hospital, Svitlana Podpala was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, bruising of soft tissues and of forehead periosteal tissues.

The police started a criminal proceeding based on Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - “inflicting light injuries”. The police operatives seized the video records from security cameras in the location of the attack.

Svitlana Pidpala reports on the topics related to environment protection, and protects the seaside from development. She is a member of activist movements “Genprotest”, “Zelenyi Lyst”.
