Vinnytsia mass media are too dependent on owners - poll results

Vinnytsia oblast shows a low assessment of the media. The biggest problem, Experts noted the biggest problem of local media is a reliance on owners, which makes media a mouthpiece for the government or private owner.

Analyst of non-governmental organization "Polissya Foundation for International and Regional Studies" Vadym Zhyhadlo reported this, during the presentation of the "Index of democracy development in regions of Ukraine - 2016". IMI representative in Vinnytsia oblast said that organization conducted this survey throughout and experts from all over Ukraine participated in it.

According to local experts, the relatively low final assessment in survey, received position "State of media" - 2.90 (out of 5 possible), according to which, Vinnytsia region takes 17-18 place (mid. - 3.04, best figure - 4.10, worst - 2.20).

During the survey, experts pointed the need for transfer of regional and local media on the principle of self-sufficiency in order to reduce their dependence on the owners or, alternatively, - the creation of media NGOs.
