Ukrposhta is blocking work of national newspapers

09.02.2017, 12:29

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine said that the state enterprise "Ukrposhta" is blocking the activity of national and local newspapers, without counting them adequate funds for ongoing subscription for 2017. NUJU calls on the government to intervene. "Media Detector" reported, referring to the NUJU press service.

According to information provided to the Union by "Ukrposhta" Directorate - debt to the newspapers is UAH 265 million or 46% of total subscriptions, as on February 8.

"Funds have not been taken from newspapers ever,  - said Acting Chairman of NUJU Serhiy Tomilenko. - We understand that the new management conducted a large-scale reform of the regular mail, but not at the expense of hundreds of newspapers and magazines to hold it! In case "Ukrposhta" alone does not have the resources to implement the government decision to raise the minimum wage, the Cabinet should help."

In the Union believes that the attitude of the state enterprise mail service to the newspaper industry is damning: BSimultaneously with blocking funds collected from readers by subscription, "Ukrposhta" preparing to raise tariffs for Newspapers by 40%.
