Ukrainian journalists demand to release Mariya Varfolomeyeva from «LPR» captivity
Ukrainian journalist movements and organizations address the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, international advocacy groups and diplomatic structures with a demand to take all efforts to release Luhansk-based journalist Mariya Varfolomeyeva from captivity of the so-called «LPR». As their joint appeal states, Varfolomeyeva has been kept prisoner for almost 5 months, “more than any other journalist, who were imprisoned by pro-Russian separatists”. She was taken on January 9, 2015, by armed fighters, for photographing housing buildings on a street of Luhansk. Later, the militants accused her of artillery fire correction, threatening her with 15 years of prison.
