The Ukrainian edition of Euronews on strike in France

In Lyon at the headquarters of the TV channel Euronews was a precautionary one-day strike the representatives of several other language editions. The initiator of the strike was the Ukrainian edition of the Euronews, the European Pravda reported.

Journalists protest against management’s plans to cease from next April broadcasting in Ukrainian from-for shortages of financing. Ukrainians say also about the unequal distribution of the budget among all the 13th language service of Euronews. The closure of the Ukrainian service happening in the context of the reorganization of the company with the aim of improving competitiveness, in particular the planned extension of English, French and Russian services .

The strike was joined by representatives of the Iranian and Arabic services, and they are also on the verge of closing. The strike was supported by journalists from most language editions – in General, December 5, the action was attended by up to 100 people.

Journalists argue that this is the first strike of journalists for all time of existence of Euronews.

Recall that in March last year, the national Council of Ukraine on television and radio broadcasting at the request of the National television company of Ukraine revoked the license for broadcasting of the Ukrainian version of Euronews TV channel.
