Valentyna Telychenko, the lawyer of Myroslava Gongadze, called the statement by the Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin about evidence that former President Kuchma was involved in the murder of journalist Gongadze, a provocation. She said this to Ukrainian News agency.

"This statement does not indicate any achievements of investigating authorities. This is a regular speculation "- said the lawyer.

According to Ms. Telychenko, despite the statement of Kuzmin, so far there is no information that Kuchma was handed a notice about the suspicion: "If he says they collected enough evidence, whether someone was handed any notice of suspicion? Probably not. If they did it, why there is no official notification of the prosecution that anyone is suspected. "

Moreover,  Telychenko stresses that the statement came as a surprise. She assumes that the statement is connected with the fact that Leonid Kuchma dared to say that there is no evidence of the involvement of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in the murder of MP Eugeniy Scherban in 1996.
