Skvyrskyi Rayon council resticted sessions video and photo recording only to journalists who are accredited

The newly elected Skvyrskyi rayon council, Kyivska oblast, chaired by Vasyl Hrysha (representative of “ Petro Poroshenko Block”) amended the Standing order of the rayon council, and according to these changes, only accredited mass media representatives can now conduct video and photo recording of their plenary sessions. This decision was approved on December 7, 2015.

As IMI lawyer Roman Holovenko comments, such resolution is illegal, as part 1, article 307 of the Civil Code of Ukraine grants a right to conduct video and photo recording at any public events, which also includes rayon council sessions. Violating this right limits not only the freedoms of journalists, but also of all citizens of Ukraine.
