Starting today, at least 30% of music broadcasted by radio stations must be in Ukrainian

On November 8, the provision of law that bounds radio stations to broadcast at least 30% of their music in Ukrainian, Radio Liberty reports. According to the law “On amendment of some laws of Ukraine as to the share of musical compositions in the state language in the programs of TV and radio organizations”, the norm is introduced assigning the share of songs in Ukrainian - the quota is at least 25% starting from the law coming into effect, 30% in the second year, and 35% in the third year, measured as percentage of total time when songs are broadcasted during the day and night time, and also inside the time periods from 7:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 22:00. In addition, since November 8, the share of broadcasts, in particular, news broadcasts, analytical or entertainment sections, must be at least 55% (before – 50%).
