Son of local official demanded 15 thousand hryvnias from newspaper

On March 4, 2013, the Skvirsky District Court dismissed the suit of first deputy mayor of Skvyra (the Kyiv Oblast) Volodymyr Horbalinsky on protection of his honor, dignity and business reputation and compensation for moral damages. The suit was brought against the local newspaper "The Province Post» and its chief editor Volodymyr Mishchenko, and also against Skvyra city council deputy Hryhoriy Ivanchenko. Hryhoriy Ivanchenko said this to IMI.
The claim was left without consideration because of the absence of plaintiff at two hearings – on February 21 and March 4.
Horbalinsky asked the court to declare false and untrue the information in an article published in number 1 (774) on January 10, 2013, titled "Performance of MP Hryhoriy Ivanchenko at the session of the Skvyra City Council on December 26, 2012."
According to Ivanchenko, the newspaper just published his speech at the session on December 26, 2012, in which he described the abuse committed by the City Council. In particular, the purchase of trees at more than 64 thousand hryvnias.
