Sitting within case of editor-in chief of RIA Novyny-Ukraine adjourned

The local Court of Kherson adjourned its sitting to the 1st of February within the case of former editori-in-chief of news agency RIA-Novyny-Ukraine Kyryl Vychynsky, due to absence of the Vychynsky’s lawyers, as to UkrInform news agency. During this sitting the judges were supposed to examine a request from the prosecutors of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to restrict the term of learning the case materials. Vychycnsky told he objected the judges to examine the case without his lawyers. There is no information why the lawyers were absent at the sitting in the court. IMI reported earlier, the Public prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea filed a request to the Kherson local court asking to restrict the term of case materials examination. The merits of the case is to be considered at one of the district courts in Kyiv. On the 15th of May 2018, the SBU reported to have detected the activity of some media institutions working under the control of Russia, state aggressor which acted with the purpose to continue the hybrid media war against Ukraine. SBU had searched the office of RIA-Novyny-Ukraine in Kyiv and detained its chief Kryrylo Vychynsky. The criminal proceedings are instituted under the Article 111 of Criminal code of Ukraine (high treason).
