SBU: Russian special services create fake Kursk news to accuse the UAF of war crimes

12.08.2024, 18:24

Russia's special services create and spread fake news and misinformation about the Kursk region situation in order to accuse the Ukrainian army of committing war crimes, reports the SBU press service.

Such influence operations are primarily caused by Russia's inability to effectively repel the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive actions.

"According to the SBU, in the near future the Russian special services may resort to staging war crimes, in particular targeting Kursk oblast's civilians, to later accuse the Ukrainian side of committing them," the Ukrainian security service notes.

The SBU warns: "Such attempts are futile and will neither affect the UAF offensive nor sway the opinion of international partners."

Hostilities in Russia's Kursk region began on August 6. Russia's military leadership and the Kursk region authorities  reported that the Ukrainian army had entered Russian municipalities and that fighting was ongoing there.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces do not comment on this information.
