Russian journalists called Zelensky to release Vyshinsky

More than 40 Russian journalists have signed an open letter addressed to the newly elected president Volodymmyr Zelensky calling him to make all possible to release Kyryl Vyshinsky, editor in chief of RIA Novosti Ukraina news agency who is indicted for high treason, as to EspressoTV. Russian ombudsperson Tatyana Moskalkova expressed her hope that as new president was taking office, criminal proceedings against Kyryll Vyshinsky would be terminated. IMI reported that that Kyryll Vyshynsky, who worked for news agency RIA Novosti-Ukraine, was arrested in Kiev on May 15, 2018. He had been be charged with high treason for his “subversive” reporting to justify Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. IMI informed Kyryll Vyshynsky was sent to Kyiv for trial. Later on, the Podilsky disctrict court in Kyiv is to examine his criminal indictment that the Office of public prosecutor of Crimea referred to Kyiv on March 6. On March 26th, the Podilsky district court has extended the arrest of the director of RIA Novyny-Ukraine Kyrylo Vyshinsky till May 24th, as to Liga.net. The judge sustained the request of prosecutor Komarosvsky, saying that Vyshinsky could flee to Russia or occupied territories or inside Russian diplomatic missions.
