Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service has not let a journalist with Russian citizenship in over his visit to Russia-occupied Crimea after he arrived in Ukraine to cover presidential elections, speaker for the Border Guard Service Oleh Slobodian said, as to Kyiv Post.
“[This is] a citizen of the Russian Federation who permanently resides in Canada and works there on one of the TV channels. They [journalists of the channel] received accreditation from the CEC [Central Election Commission], but during detailed communication on the state border we found out that he had violated the legislation of Ukraine and visited Crimea through closed checkpoints, so we refused the entry,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on March 14.
According to him, the journalist was included in the stop list for three years.
The next presidential elections in Ukraine will be held on March 31.
