"Reporters Without Borders" (RSF) appeals for immediate release of two bloggers

10.08.2017, 16:56
International advocacy organization “Reporters without borders” appeals for an immediate release of the journalist of Russian media Vasiliy Muravitskiy, detained by Ukrainian authorities, and Eduard Nedeliayev, the blogger sentenced to 14 years of prison by pro-Russian separatists in the city of Luhansk in the east of Ukraine. This information was released at the website of the organization, “Detector media” reports. “We all know about the destructive effect of propaganda and its role in the tragic events that took place in Ukraine, but the fact of working for the media that express views you do not support, must not be a reason for criminalizing the activity. It is obvious that hate mongering or instigations of violence need to be tackled, yet only basing on certain evidence, and respecting the international laws. Based on the evidence that we have now, detention of Vasyl Muravytsyi does not seem a neccessary or an adequate measure. We appeal for his immediate release”, - said the head of the RSF Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Johan Bir. Also, the organization reminded about the Luhansk blogger Eduard Nedeliayev and journalist and blogger Stanislav Aseyev (Vasin), detained in donetsk by separatist militants. Vayl Muravnutskyi is a former journalist and blogger from Zhytomyr, who was detained by SBU for publishing and creating anti-Ukrainian materials under orders of Russian governmental propaganda agencies. He was detained for two months on August 3 based on court order. Muravnutskyi is accused of several crimes, including high treason, and participation in activities of terrorist organization.
