"Reporters without borders" demand immediately release of Maria Varfolomeyeva, kept prisoner by "LPR" for six month

11.07.2015, 13:58

“Reporters without borders” condemn a long-lasting holding hostage of the Luhansk journalist Maria Varfolomeyeva, who was arrested by armed militants of the self-proclaimed “LPR” six months ago, and call for her immediate release. This appeal was published on the RSF website, Media Sapiens inform.

Maria Varfolomeyeva was arrested on January 9, when she was photographing housing buildings at Luhanska street. She was accused of helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine to «correct artillery fire», and being a spy for "Right Sector". The kidnappers interrogated her, and published video records of the interrogations. In the end, the self-proclaimed "people's republic" said the journalist has to serve 15 years of prison.

“The long-lasting unwarranted holding of Mariya Varfolomeyeva is totally unacceptable”, said the head of “Reporters without Borders” Eastern Europe and Central Asia branch, Johann Bihr.
