Rada binds radio stations to increase percentage of aired Ukrainian music
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law No. 3822-д "On amendment to the Law of Ukraine "On amendment to the Law of Ukraine "On TV and Radio Broadcasting" (on the share of songs in the official language in musical radio programs and broadcasts)" – it was voted for by 268 MPs, 112.ua reports.
The Law rules that now at least 35% of all songs during the day and night period must be in Ukrainian – and at least 35% from songs broadcast in the period from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For radio stations that broadcast songs in official languages of the European Union, if this is specified in their license (they broadcast at least 60% in official languages of the European Union) based on their license conditions, have the quota of Ukrainian language songs reduced to 25%.
