Police detained Huzhva for unsanctioned rally and released him later

16.09.2014, 01:35

On September 13, in Kyiv police detained the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Vesti" Ihor Huzhva during the rally in support of the newspaper. The police officers explained that the rally was not sanctioned. Later they released Huzhva. The rally was about 25 persons strong; they were the journalists and readers of "Vesti". They expressed their protest against persecutions they believed the newspaper has been subjected to. The rally had an altercation with some ‘masked radicals’ that were throwing stones at the rally participants and tried to beat them.

Earlier, on September 11, the investigators of the Chief Department of the Security Service of Ukraine searched the editorial office of ‘Vesti’ under suspicion of its involvement in separatist activities.
