Kostyantyn Huzenko, serviceman and photographer who collaborated with Ukraїner, was killed in action on 1 November, the project’s founder Bohdan Logvynenko reported in an Instagram post and elaborated to the Institute of Mass Information.
“We had known Kostya since 2020, when he joined Ukraїner as a photographer. Most filming trips we went on together happened in 2022 and 2023. We were together in the South, the East, and the North. In all the not-so-safe corners of our motherland; Kostya was never afraid to go anywhere. And then he joined the Marines himself. We only saw each other a few times after that: Kostya would come to visit when he was in Kyiv. Yesterday Kostya died,” Logvynenko wrote.
In their comment to IMI, Ukraїner clarified that Kostyantyn died in the East of Ukraine. He had enlisted in early 2024.
The place and date of Kostyantyn Huzenko’s funeral will be announced later. Kostyantyn was a staff sergeant in the liaison department of the Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi Marine Brigade No. 35.
“Before joining the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Kostyantyn was a photographer, media producer, and a podcaster. Kostyantyn joined Ukraїner in 2020 as a volunteer. He went on his first expedition with a cane because he was recovering from a car accident. After the start of the full-scale invasion, Kostyantyn traveled to record the history of deoccupied cities and villages as part of the Ukraїner team. He also worked with the War Archive project, recording the Ukrainians’ struggle as a photographer,” Ukraїner told IMI.

Kostyantyn Huzenko was a photographer, media producer, a Ukraїner team member, and a liaison officer at the Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi Marine Brigade No. 35.
He worked as an engineer and cameraman on television and in online media. After the start of Russia’s full-scale Russian invasion he worked as a freelance photographer, documenting the impact of the war and the fight against occupation, according to the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP).
On 9 July 2025, the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers presented a new episode of the video project “On the Frame Line” — a series of documentary interviews with Ukrainian photographers who had enlisted in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, taking up arms but not putting down their cameras. Kostyantyn Huzenko was one of those interviewed.
Kostyantyn collaborated with The Village as a photographer for a long time and was a podcast producer. He was the first producer of the podcast “Put Simply” and of the podcast “Station 451”, the media outlet reports.
For The Village, Kostya Huzenko took pictures of Kyiv during the emergency blackouts of 2022, and also made a photo report from the deoccupied Lyman and filmed Kharkiv during a full-scale invasion.
According to the Institute of Mass Information, Kostyantyn Huzenko is the 118th media worker to die in the course of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
