PACE call for effective investigation into murder of Vadym Komarov

02.07.2019, 16:29
The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of Ukraine, Dzhema Grozdanova (Bulgaria, EPP/CD) and Alfred Heer (Switzerland, ALDE), have expressed their concern at the death on 20 June 2019 of Ukrainian investigative journalist Vadym Komarov, following an attack by unknown assailants on 4 May in the town of Cherkassy. “The fact that this attack may have been linked to his professional activity as an investigative journalist reporting on corruption and abuse of power in Cherkassy makes his murder all the more concerning,” the co-rapporteurs said. They therefore called on the authorities to ensure that a transparent and effective investigation into his murder takes place. “Regrettably, investigations into attacks on anti-corruption activists and journalists have not produced tangible results. It is important that a climate of impunity for such heinous acts, or even a perception of it, is not permitted,” emphasised the two co-rapporteurs. PACE
