29.05.2019, 17:50
The national project "Enhancing protection of activists" is going to start in Ukraine. This project entails developping of an interactive tool aiming to protect the activists' rights. The mechanism is to be worked out by the Association of Ukrainian human rights monitors on law enforcement (UMDPL) in common with the network of collective security “ZakhysTY”, as to the website of the Association of the UERHR. Among the digital tools are : 1. Online application Hot button, which can urgently send data on geolocation of the person in trouble, briefly inform about the place of the activist on the selected phone numbers and call the police and ambulance. 2. Chat bot, which will provide short answers explaining how to act in typical situations that are life-threatening and dangerous for health. 3. An online course on basic physical and digital security tips, including how to provide emergency medical assistance and interact with law enforcement agencies. Also within the project, it is supposed to inform international partners and authorities on attacks against activists in Ukraine. For this purpose: 1) the establishment of a network of regional experts who will survey the situation at the local level; 2) monthly monitoring reports and newsletters in English on the status of pressures on activists, etc. The project is scheduled to be implemented within the period of six months - from May to October 2019.
